Áine Evans

“Oh Dublin can be heaven with a coffee at 11 and a stroll in Stephen’s Green”

As someone with a background in musical theatre and operetta, Áine finds it perfectly natural to burst into song whilst strolling the fascinating streets of Dublin.  Her passion for exploring Dublin was born from exploring the world performing on Cruise Ships and having a fabulous time altogether. Ultimately realising “there really is no place like home” (as a former Glinda the Good Witch, she says this with good authority), she has now exchanged her sailor’s hat and life jacket for a good coat with a hood – a necessity for the mercurial Irish weather. (Trips over rainbows not guaranteed on tour, the leprechauns have dibs.)

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” (Oscar Wilde)

Áine particularly loves sharing Ireland’s unique, rich cultural heritage and history through the Artwork and Architecture found in Dublin. Favourites include Oscar Wilde’s colourfully redolent statue, the haunting famine memorials, the multifaceted stories of St Patrick’s Cathedral and Dublin Castle, the folkloric Setanta mural and Children of Lir Statue, the exquisite Book of Kells and Trinity Library, and the symbolically rich Daniel O’Connell statue – a firm favourite with the seagulls.

Outside of tour guiding, Áine is fortunate to have performed in nearly all of Dublin’s Theatres. Her cousins fondly refer to her musical family as the “Von Trapps” due to their propensity to sing together at family weddings. She is passionate about the holistic value of the Arts and can be found teaching music, drama, musical theatre, piano and singing, as well as entertaining residents in care homes – where she has heard many a fascinating tale of Dublin in the “Rare Old Times”. Having found it a bit difficult to carry a piano on tour, she has taught herself a little tin whistle and ukulele (and is currently trying her hand at the Bodhrán [bow-rawn] – an oft-mispronounced Irish drum). Áine was fortunate to be born with natural Irish dancing hair and spent several years of her childhood jigging about the place. Her passion for travel also remains and she loves people to share stories of their own homes, finding new places to add to her destination wish list.

Áine finds new things to love about Dublin every time she does a tour and looks forward to seeing the City afresh with you.
