Explore Ireland’s ancient monastic city and the scenic beauty of the Wicklow Mountains on a personalized journey.
Just an hour south of Dublin lies a landscape that feels worlds away: valleys of vibrant greens, highland bogs where wild deer roam, quiet lakes hidden between steep glacial walls… This is the Ireland most visitors hope to find, and it’s all part of our Wicklow and Glendalough tour from Dublin — a day of matchless scenery and history.
We’ll travel through the country’s largest national park on our way to the medieval monastic settlement of Glendalough, set at the end of a long, dramatic valley. A gently-graded path leads around the lakes, through ancient woodland, and into the story of St Kevin, the ascetic monk whose life shaped the site. It’s a highlight of any Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains tour.
After meeting plenty of sheep in the Wicklow countryside, we’ll show you what happens to all that wool. In the lovely village of Avoca, you’ll visit Ireland’s oldest working handweavers. The tour of the small cottage-style mill brings you right up to the looms, the scent of wool, and the artisans at work. There’s an excellent café for lunch — healthy or indulgent, your choice — and the shop is one of the best places in Ireland to buy clothing that’s genuinely made here.
Then it’s time to switch from village life to grandeur. Powerscourt House, once used on film as a stand-in for Versailles, sits amid sweeping gardens, a pet cemetery, forest trails and views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. You’ll learn the stories of the families who lived here and their often-spirited Irish neighbours.
A Glendalough and Wicklow day tour from Dublin is ideal for anyone who wants to experience Ireland’s famous “40 shades of green,” breathe in the freshness of the countryside, explore centuries of history, and enjoy great food and Irish-made craft along the way.

Glendalough was one of the most important monasteries in Ireland back in the 12th century. It dates as far back as the 6th century, when it was founded by St. Kevin. You’ll hear the many colourful stories about his adventures as we approach the site. We’ll enjoy a leisurely flat walk through some primordial woodland around the smaller lower lake, as we make our way towards the start of the bigger upper lake. There’s a nice waterfall nearby which is up about 40 steps.

Powerscourt was built in the 18th century for the Wingfield family. The visit gives an insight into the decadence of British colonialism in Ireland. The opulent estate includes a golf course, pet cemetery, gardens and waterfall.
