Colm Hogan

Guiding You Through Ireland’s History with Knowledge, Culture, and Heart.

I am a native of Tipperary and have been living in Dublin for the past 13 years. I am married to Mary and we live in a very historical area of Dublin, in Kilmainham. Our home is just a stone’s throw from Kilmainham Gaol; a very significant site in Irish history, over a number of centuries. My family in Tipperary is steeped in hurling, one of our national games which is one of the fastest field games in the world and I enjoy telling people about such sports on my tours. I love tour guiding and telling people the story of Ireland and our history through facts and anecdotes, poetry and song. I take the opportunity to sing Irish ballads on my tours, telling our story in a very emotive manner.

My professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the National University of Maynooth, a Masters in Management for the Community and Voluntary Sector and my National Accreditation for Tour Guiding for the whole island of Ireland. I spent several years working in overseas development; lived in South America for some years and visited several countries in Africa on field work assignments. I love to travel and am interested in different cultures, food and languages. I love tour guiding and always look forward to meeting people who are visiting Ireland and I am very passionate about sharing our story and history with them.

  • “Colm was an absolutely fabulous tour guide. He met us at our hotel at 9am for a 5 hr private tour of nearly all of Dublin, and we headed off to tour the city. We had 4 adults and 5 children (ages 14-9). Colm did a great job with keeping the content engaging for the whole party. We really enjoyed seeing both side of the river, and loved all the history Colm shared as we walked the streets of Dublin. We enjoyed a lovely lunch during the tour at a great restaurant in the Temple Bar area (The Cappuccino Bar). I would definitely recommend this tour for those hoping to learn a bit more about the History of Dublin.”

  • “We were in Dublin for a 2 days before going to explore the south; after taking the private walking tour with Colm – not only do I want to stay and explore the rest of Dublin , I now aspire to read more Irish poetry /history, listen to more Irish music as well a become a true blue (& yellow : UpTip : Tipperary) hurling fan! Honestly, I spent the day after landing wandering around near my hotel, but experiencing a private walking tour with our guide Colm I was able to put into context the places I had gone as well given brilliant places to go after the tour that made my Dublin experience complete. It felt that Colm had a clever tale, beautiful song or personal anecdote for every 20 feet we walked, as well recommendations for great food and authentic experiences.
I love to travel, l love to understand the culture, history and people of the places I visit – it may seem I only write glowing reviews, but it’s because I write these when an outing, excursion or tour inspires me to explore more. Dublin Private tours is the way to go if you want to get to know Dublin from the eyes of the people who live there and genuinely want to share the story and pride they have for this city and the country of Ireland. Whereas many tours remind you that you are tourist, this tour felt more like I was a guest and member of my family was showing me around the city. I can continue to heap praise and write long-winded descriptions like my other reviews, I will just say gold experience that left me with a fondness for Dublin that I really intend to return back to someday! Thank you Colm and Dublin Private Tours!”

  • “Colm was an amazing guide. He ensured we had our tickets for the Book of Kells the night before the tour. Amazingly he remembered all 7 of our names upon introductions. He asked if there was anything in particular we wished to see and incorporated it into the tour. We hit all the major sites and he provided a great history of all sites, Dublin, and Ireland in general. He gave great recommendations for restaurants along the tour and was fantastic with our 22 month old engaging him throughout the 3 hours. I highly recommend this tour and especially Colm. It was the perfect start to our vacation.”
